YOUTH RETREAT

Hey guys!!!

I’ll repeat the same sentece from the post before. I haven’t written for 2 weeks. Actually I’ve been in lacking of free time.  Anyway now I’ll do it!

Today I’ll talk about the CLT – Christian Leadership Training in portuguese (TLC Treinamento de Liderança Cristã). CLT is a movement of the Catholic Church which is carried out all over Brazil and is joined by thousands of young people.

Last weekend I participated in a retreat in Jequie – Bahia (picture below). There were many young people that stayed there praising God! Actually in this retreat we could see the demonstration of God’s power on the young peoples lives.

       jequie

I’ve been participating in CLT for 10 years and I really believe this movement has changed my life forever because Jesus’s love for me is forever. Sometimes I can’t understand how the heck young people leave their lives in the hands of evil if Jesus can take care of us.

Guys!!! The next two weekends I’ll participate again in retreats in Salvador and Feira de Santana and if you wanna know even more about CLT let me know!!!

See ya :)

Are you awake?

Hi guys!

I haven’t written for 2 weeks. Actually I’ve been in lacking of free time.  Anyway now I’ll do it!

Today I will talk about a damn cool movie called Awake. I really liked it! The main character is Clay played by Hayden Christensen. The story is about a young businessman who is a cardiac patient. Although nowadays this situation is common, the movie shows what happens when the anesthesia fails. You can see the preview below:

In fact the ideia of staying awake during a surgery is awful, I think I prolly would go crazy in the OR (operation room), but I have to admit when Clay found himself in this situation he needed chill out and he reached for a few minutes. Summing up the best part of movie I believe It was the scene which his mother kills herself trying to save him!

Hooray I’ve finally finished this post!!!!!

See ya guys!!!!!

Hey buddies!!!

Today I’ll share with you a very interesting term that I’ve got!!! In Brazil people use the expression “Amizade Colorida” or “Colored Friendship” literally when they want to describe a relationship which isn’t romantic and may not get any deeper than the physical connection. Moreover in english people say fuckbuddy for this idea. This person (fuckbuddy) is a friend with whom you have a sexy with regularly but who isn’t quite a boyfriend or a girlfriend.

Example: Hey, I’m not serious about that chick, we’re just fuckbuddies, dude.

See ya guys :)

Quote

“I have had to announce under the gun and under vicious personal attack that I am in fact pregnant.”
- Singer Lisa Marie Presley on being forced to reveal her secret. (MySpace)

Meaning

pressured, forced to rush

Use

If you really want someone to hurry up and get something done, pointing a gun at him or her couldn’t hurt. It is, of course, illegal and immoral to do so, but, hey, sometimes you’re in a hurry!
Since pointing guns at people tends to create problems, it’s better to point metaphorical guns. Employers and teachers give people deadlines to make sure they get their work done on time. If you have to get something done quickly or people are going to be mad at you, you’re working under the gun.
You can also use under the gun when you’re talking about pressure in general. Lisa Marie Presley has appeared a little larger than normal lately. So the press started writing mean things about her. The truth is she’s pregnant but didn’t want anyone to know. But she found herself under the gun to say something since everyone was talking about her appearance.

Examples

“The company is need of new clients so I’m under the gun to get this deal finished.”
“We’re under the gun to get this weapon developed before our enemies do.”

Grammar Point

The phrase under the gun comes from poker, a common card game that’s played for money. If you’re under the gun at the poker table, it means you’re the first one who has to place a bet.

They’re coming back

Hello all!!!

Next month the medical series Grey’s Anatomy is coming back. The story about resident doctors fighting against their fears and passion begins a new season, the fifth, which will start April 24th on ABC. I think this new season will completely change the series because many fans want Izzie and George’s relationship to end. Although I like this couple I have to confess this relationship is weird because since the beginning we could only see them being friends.

          greys

I read an article in which Shonda Rhimes, a Grey’s Anatomy writer, said that Meredith and Derik will finally stay together. According to Shonda this couple will learn what it is to be in a relationship. Moreover she said about George “‘He’s been such a mess for so long, making weird choices, it’ll be nice to see him grow up a little quicker.” Summing up we will have many changes in this season which will put an end to all the mistakes the last season. Guys without a shadow of a doubt we just need to wait!!!!!!

See ya :) Happy Easter!!!!

”…Just scrambling around trying to get my last minute things together for the Asian tour upon which we are about to depart.”
- Mickey Madden of Maroon 5 has a lot to do before he leaves town. (MySpace)

Meaning

to be mixed up, confused, unorganized or very busy

Use

Diners in America are full of morning customers ordering scrambled eggs, toast, and coffee. But what do scrambled eggs and Mickey Madden scrambling around have to do with each other? Both Mickey Madden of Maroon 5 and the eggs are mixed up, out of order and hurrying to get ready.
Scrambled eggs are stirred or beaten before they are cooked. As Maroon 5 rushes around to get ready for their big tour, the band feels unorganized, confused and mixed up. It seems like they have to move in all directions at once, which is how you cook scrambled eggs.
But besides scrambling around to get stuff done, you can use scramble to talk about minds or thoughts too. If your mind is scrambled, it means your thoughts are really chaotic and unorganized.
So go ahead and USE it!

Examples

“I have been scrambling around at work trying to finish my projects. My thoughts are all scramble, what am I supposed to be doing?”

Grammar Point

You might hear people on TV shows about the military use scramble when they’re talking about radios. Criminals can scramble signals. They make the radio signal unorganized, so that people can’t understand it.  To learn more about scrambled eggs and even how to make them at home, read this user lesson on writing recipes and making scrambled eggs.

Movies: Vantage Point

Hi everyone!

I saw a very interesting movie. The Vantage Point shows eight points of view about a terrorist attack where the American President has been shot. Although this film is damn smart and a blockbuster, actually the idea of repeating the same scene many times just with different ways makes the movie seem pokey. In the box below you can see a preview this movie and maybe give a comment about your feelings.

Therefore the movie shows those points of view the conclusion is good but I have to admit there were some totally bizarre moments. I thought that FBI Agent would never die. Guys if you like a lot of action you have to see this movie…

Hugs and see ya!!! :)

Quote

“Oh, I’m not trying to land him.”

- Julia Roberts doesn’t really want to be with Richard Gere. (Pretty Woman)

Meaning

to get; to win; to successfully attain

Use

When you travel, do you ever worry about your plane landing safely? Do you hope and pray the pilot will land the plane smoothly? Or do you worry about landing other things?

Sure, normally, it takes a pilot to land something. But average people can land things, too. Whenever you get something great, you can say you landed it. Richard Gere is great, but Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman did not want to land him, which is to say did not want to marry him.

Richard Gere might be someone you’d want to land, but maybe you’d like to land something more realistic, like a good job. One of the most common uses of land is to land a job. It’s so common that it’s hardly even slang anymore and it’s appropriate in any context, including business. But slang isn’t all business. So tell us, what would you like to land?

A hot date, maybe?

Examples

“She landed a great job.

How did you land such a great Apartment?”

Grammar Point

Land (as slang) needs an object. I landed a job. I landed a great new apartment. “I landed” without an object usually means “my plane landed.”

How much time do I need to wait? I guess I’ve been waiting so long to reach my dream. Why is so hard to take an airplane and go out without borders? Brazil has great people and a large territory, however its people have been jammed with corruption and social problems like violence and bad health.

     Air Canada

I know that Brazil is my land, the place where I was born but I believe there are more possibilities in other countries! I don’t know maybe I just need a totally new experience… Trust me I really want to change my life and I can because in my point of view people can change their lives!!! Although is very weird to say that but How can I trust in a country like this.

I’ve dreamed about Canada! What my life will be like there, How many friends I’ll make…. I know that I need prepare myself because Canada is damn cold and many foreign people live there, it’s interesting because I’ll know a heck of different culture.

I’ll promise to talk more about this issue in another post.

Thanks for reading guys. I hope your comment!!!!

See you later :)
